Pre-match report – Leigh v Medway 4s

Last encounter in November 2015 saw Medway win 35-10, that season Leigh were relegated.

Leigh are no strangers to Medway, their second ever game (under the name of “Leigh All Blacks” due to the kit that had been borrowed for the game) was against Medway 3s. A 15-0 victory to Leigh gave the eventual Layabouts belief it was worth continuing this crazy idea they had started.

Since then the meetings have been in the Kent Rural leagues against either Medway 3s or 4s. Records available show a P7 W4 L3 in favour of Leigh. It will be a tough game for sure, Medway is a big club with much focus on youth development, and attacking running rugby.  Leigh despite its ‘social rugby’ moniker is a tough team to beat at any time, solid resilient defensive line and at their best total magic in the backs.  Both teams secured a round one victory with Medway beating Tun Wells 3s 12-5 at home.  And last week Leigh secured victory against Canterbury at the FOD 26-7.

So who will claim the spoils in this Round 2 league encounter today. Will it be Leigh making it two from two at home or Medway with their first trip on the road for the season.

Kick off at the FOD is 3pm, gates open at 2pm. Crowds have been impressive so far and with fair weather planned, today should be no exception.
